Koorana Crocodile Farm

Being in the Tropic of Capricorn isn’t just about the beautiful islands and reefs that you get to explore, it also happens to be home to one of the world’s most apex predators – the crocodile.

Koorana Crocodile Farm, first established in 1981 by John and Lillian Lever, was Queensland’s first ever commercial crocodile farm and now holds over 3000 crocs. The Lever’s are passionate about the animals, having removed over 100 rogue crocodiles that were deemed a danger to people from public areas. They were removed in a safe and humane way and brought back to an environment where they could roam freely instead of the alternative of being executed – something that John and Lillian couldn’t bear the thought of.

The farm is a hub for educating about the nature of crocodiles and offers guided tours, training courses on handling and also even hatchings between February and May.

The guided tour primarily centers on the animals rather than delving into the intricacies of crocodile farming. The farm houses over 3,000 crocodiles, but you will only encounter just a few of them during the tour, mostly those that are fully grown. You will however encounter younger crocs throughout the farm – even getting the opportunity to hold one for a photo for the ones not faint of heart!

Tours are held twice daily and range in price from $16 – $35 or if you want to take the family and make a day of it, there is a package that caters!
